Patience and Persistence

I started this business in September 2016 as a way to take on a monopoly that accounts for ~85% of the sunglasses and eyewear market - Luxottica.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been two years since we launched Shades on Point Sunglass Co.!

Reminiscing on this crazy journey we’ve been on, I thought I’d give you some insight into this adventure based on questions I’ve received from friends, family, coworkers, customers, social media, interviews and other small business owners.

Kickstart Your Heart

When I first created Shades on Point Sunglass Co., I did so as a way to connect to the city I grew up in and, still to this day after more than a decade away, a city I still call home. Pittsburghers are extra-proud of their city. Show me a Pittsburgher who doesn’t have a list of reasons why Pittsburgh is the best city in America… maybe even the world.

Mr. Rogers was a man who believed that we all needed a place to belong, to feel loved. A man who understood the power of a neighborhood, and every day, invited us all to be part of his with a catchy song and a simple smile.

You’ve heard a lot from our Uncle Jerry, and from some guy named Muz, but I thought it might be time to get a little bit of a female voice on this site. I was recently in a presentation for my day job and was shocked to hear that women now make up 51% of this great country. We’re no longer the minority, technically.

It’s a Yinz-plosion Over Here!

If you’ve seen my latest vlog, you know that it was another big week for us here at Shades on Point and another testament to greatness of the city of Pittsburgh. There’s something about the people of this city and the way we all come together to support each other that’s pretty awesome.

My CMO and I both have day jobs at some of the biggest companies on the planet, so the thinking we are immersed in on a daily basis almost has to go out the window when it comes to the marketing strategy for our start-up… almost.

It Was All a Dream...

It Was All a Dream...

It’s been an incredible start for Shades on Point! We’re overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from so many. What started as a simple desire to “do it better,” has become a dedication to create something from nothing – and I couldn’t be more humbled by our launch.
